This event will bring our campus community together to spotlight strategies and coordinated care efforts that support our students. Our coordinated care model at NKU is designed to create a more connected, intentional student experience. This approach ensures every student receives the right support at the right time. Together, we will explore how collaboration across campus helps our students thrive.

Student Resources

NKU has identified five primary themes that encompass the holistic support we believe necessary to provide students with an optimal college experience. We believe that it is the responsibility of all faculty and staff to have a basic understanding of each of these five themes and be acquainted with the campus resources that directly support each theme.

Academic Planning and Support

NKU is invested in our students’ academic success. In collaboration with faculty and staff, students develop an academic plan that not only includes a course sequence but also builds in co-curricular activities, such as internships, needed support services, and student engagement opportunities. Advising is an integral part of student success and is a collaborative effort that encourages students to develop clear educational plans and choose realistic life and career goals.

Career Development and Planning

Students are involved in career development from the time they enter NKU through graduation and beyond. Early in a student’s educational journey, career exploration and planning allow for understanding of how a degree can map to a career. As students progress through college, career readiness competencies are promoted and intentionally aligned with academic plans. The university community supports students to engage in experiential learning, and ultimately, obtain meaningful employment or pursue further education.

Financial Literacy

With the shift away from transactional roles, financial health is viewed as part of a student’s wellness rather than a tuition transaction. Financial literacy encompasses both fiscal health and money management. In addition to an academic and career plan, students must also have a plan that helps them understand not only how to pay for college but also includes budgeting for living expenses while on their educational journey.

Health and Well-being

There are myriad factors that contribute to student well-being. At NKU, we strive to recognize, respect, and celebrate those unique experiences and intersectional identities of our students. As a campus community we endeavor to create effective support networks to assist students experiencing health and well-being issues. The faculty and staff believe that for students to be successful, individual basic needs must be met through campus and community partner collaboration.

Affinity

The NKU community recognizes that students thrive when they feel a life-long connection to campus and have a sense that they matter. Acceptance, feeling valued, and social support are vital to student success. As such, faculty and staff strive to ensure students feel a sense of belonging through engagement, positive interactions, and support networks both on and off campus to foster a life-long connection to Norse Nation.

Levels of Support

Primary Support

The units in the primary level of the coordinated care model are those with advanced knowledge of the designated theme, provide proactive service and outreach, and serve as a primary point of contact.

Secondary Support

The units in the secondary level of the coordinated care model collaborate with the primary unit to further round out support for students.

Tertiary Support

All members of the campus community have a basic level of knowledge and understanding of resources and are able to get the student to the appropriate unit for support.
